1-day trip to magnificent Iskar gorge and to a unique church with seven altars in mountain monastery
Departure at 9.30 a.m. to the north river Iskar. The region provides travel along impressive river canyon. The Iskar gorge is one of the most interesting parts. Climbing to the top of the rocks near Lakatnik village. Picnic in front of amazing view to the gorge. Transfer to“The Seven altars” monastery settled in the Western foot of Balkan Range, along the upper stream of Gabrovnitsa river. The earliest information about the monastery dates from 1511 from a Gospel, and from 1554 from another official document. It was renewed in 1770 and in 1815 with the donation of the local people.
Nowadays the monastery church was erected in 1825 and it is cruciform building with cylindrical coupon. With its architecture the church is unique. It is simplify variety of the cruciformed buildings. There are common seven premises. They are formed from four single isolated premises, two site premises in the narthex and main sanctuary – make seven cult premises. Here you can see and the wood – carved iconostasis, the iconostasis – icons, the monastery clapper (1799) each one of them priceless for the Bulgarian church art. On the way back visit to Cherepish monastery. Arrival to Sofia about 9 p.m.
