Distance 150 km/87.5 m southwest from Sofia
2-day trip to the city with old history and visit to Thracian cult complex
near Starosel.
Day – 1
Departure on the first day at 10 a.m.to the Trakia highway and arrival to
magical Plovdiv at 12 a.m. Ancient Plovdiv is one of the most romantic
cities in Bulgaria. Situated in the western part of Gornotrakiiska Lowland,
along the two banks of river Maritsa, and scattered upon six unique hills
(called “tepeta”). Old houses in the center from the Revival period create
specific color and atmosphere to the town and shape up its unique view and
nature. The stately shape of Sahat hillock with the clock tower dating back
to 16-th century, Bunardjika with the Russian soldier statue and the Djendem
hillock are noticeable.
Accommodation in a 3 star hotel in the center of Plovdiv. For a dinner we
will suggest several restaurants and decide together with you where to go.
Day – 2
At the next day after lunch transfer to a Thracian cult complex Starosel –
one of the most interesting remains from ancient times in Bulgaria. The
grave and its surroundings are thought by archaeologists to have been an
important religious site for Thracians dating from the Stone Age. Stairs and
a corridor approach the two-chamber tomb. It is surrounded by a 263-yard
long wall made out of some 4,000 stone blocks and was hidden under a
20-meter high mound of earth.
Transfer to Sofia. Arrival about 9 p.m.
